Ghana delegation member: Developed countries must cover the majority of the financing

"Since developed countries are the primary contributors to atmospheric pollution, they should bear the majority of the costs required to combat climate change," a member of Ghana's delegation at COP29 Eric Kofi Afornorpe said, APA reports.

He emphasized that the proposed $250 billion should be directed toward countries severely impacted by this issue:

"An agreement on financing must absolutely be reached within the framework of COP29. Let me note that developed countries are more responsible for emitting harmful gases and polluting the atmosphere. Therefore, they must cover a bigger portion of the financing. We are not saying whether the money exists or not; we are saying the money must be found. They must reach an agreement on this issue and set priorities. A long-term agreement must also be achieved under the New Collective Quantified Goal. I believe that all countries should declare the fight against climate change and the ecological crisis as their top priority."
