Azerbaijan announces volume of losses in oil pipelines for 2024

In the period from January to September this year, Azerbaijan saw a loss of 3,500 tons in its oil pipelines, a 25% increase compared to the same period last year, the State Statistics Committee of Azerbaijan told APA-Economics.

Oil pipeline losses in Azerbaijan amounted to 2,800 tons in the corresponding period of the previous year.

Noted that in the first nine months of 2023, Azerbaijan transported 28.86 million tons of oil through its pipelines, which is a 3.1% decrease in the annual comparison. Of this total, 75.1% was transported through the Baku-Tbilisi-Ceyhan (BTC) oil export pipeline, which saw a 4.34% annual decrease, with 21.68 million tons of oil delivered through this pipeline.

For reference, in 2022, losses in the oil pipelines amounted to 3,800 tons, which was a 31% increase compared to 2021. In 2023, the total oil transported through the main pipelines reached 39.75 million tons, a 5.2% increase compared to the previous year. Of this, 75.9% was transported through BTC, which saw a 1.49% increase in throughput, with 30.19 million tons of oil transported via BTC last year.
