According to the preliminary results of the early presidential elections held in Azerbaijan, the presidential candidate from the ruling New Azerbaijan Party, Ilham Aliyev, was elected head of state for the next 7 years with 92.1 percent of the votes.
Yeniavaz.com reports that before President Ilham Aliyev, 25 people performed this duty.
Two of these people became heads of state for the second time after a certain break. Heydar Aliyev was head of state for the first time from July 14, 1969 to December 3, 1982, and for the second time from September 1, 1993 to October 15, 2003. Ayaz Mutalibov was head of state for the first time from January 25, 1990 to March 6, 1992, and for the second time from May 14 to 18, 1992 (4 days).
