Azerbaijan increases fines for animal cruelty

Azerbaijan is increasing fines for animals cruelty this is reflected in the proposed amendments to the Code of Administrative Violations, APA reports.

According to the current law in force, cruelty to animals that results in their injury or death is punishable by a fine of 500 AZN.

Under the draft, cruelty to animals, such as causing pain, suffering, torture, beating, or forcing them to fight, will be punishable by a fine of 500 to 800 AZN. If these acts are committed publicly, including through media display, the fine will range from 800 to 1,000 AZN. If the cruelty results in the animal's disability, the fine will increase to 1,000 to 1,500 AZN. In cases where the cruelty leads to the death of the animal, the fine will range from 1,500 to 2,000 AZN, or, depending on the circumstances and the offender’s identity, administrative detention of up to one month may be applied.
