Russian Foreign Ministry: Unblocking transport communications should meet interests of region

When talking about the North-South transport corridor, the main work is being carried out in contact with Azerbaijan and Iran in the western direction from Russia along the Caspian Sea through Azerbaijani territory and further to Iran, Russian Foreign Ministry spokesperson Maria Zakharova said, answering a question from Report.
She noted that the route, which should connect the western regions of Azerbaijan with Nakhchivan through the territory of Armenia, is being discussed within the trilateral working group on unblocking all economic and transport links in the South Caucasus under the joint chairmanship of the deputy prime ministers of Russia, Azerbaijan and Armenia.
"The work in the trilateral working group is being carried out as part of the trilateral agreement [Trilateral Statement of the Presidents of Azerbaijan, the Russian Federation and the Prime Minister of Armenia dated November 9, 2020]," she said.
According to Zakharova, Moscow's position on unblocking communications between Baku and Yerevan is obvious and well-known.
"We proceed from the fact that the relevant agreements will be reached and implemented by mutual consent of the parties and on mutually acceptable terms so that this meets the interests of both Azerbaijan and Armenia, as well as their neighbors," she concluded.
