On April 22, President of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev was on a working visit to Russia. Assistant to the President of Azerbaijan, Head of Foreign Policy Affairs Department of the Presidential Administration Hikmet Hajiyev has answered APA’s question regarding the evaluation of the results of the visit.
- President of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev was on a working visit to Russia. How do you evaluate the results of the visit?
- The Azerbaijani side evaluates the results of this visit very positively. Let me note that the visit took place in the spirit of strategic partnership and alliance relations between Azerbaijan and Russia. Within the framework of the visit, the heads of state widely discussed issues pertaining to the bilateral agenda. This includes political, economic- trade relations between Azerbaijan and Russia, mutual investments, humanitarian and other issues. The increasing of trade turnover was emphasized as a positive point. It was noted with satisfaction that there were positive dynamics in almost every direction of the Azerbaijan-Russia relations.
During the meeting, the "North-South" international transportation corridor was discussed, and the state leaders assigned relevant government representatives to take necessary steps for the implementation of this project. President Ilham Aliyev emphasized that there is a railway line connecting Azerbaijan with Russia, but the existing infrastructure must be expanded accordingly to handle the expected 15 million tons of cargo volume.
Additionally, discussions were held regarding the peace agreement between Azerbaijan and Armenia. President Ilham Aliyev noted the high appreciation for Russia's role and efforts in this regard.
The meeting between President Ilham Aliyev and President Vladimir Putin with the veterans and workers of the railway sector on the occasion of the 50th anniversary of the Baikal-Amur Mainline was a significant event. In a sincere atmosphere, the important role and significant contributions of Heydar Aliyev, the national leader of the Azerbaijani people during the Soviet era, in the implementation of this ambitious project were specifically highlighted. It was reported that Heydar Aliyev's efforts and resolute determination played a crucial role in overcoming the technological and natural challenges encountered during the construction of BAM, which is now of great importance for Russia and the global economy. Veterans who had worked alongside the Great Leader shared their fond memories of him.
Overall, President Ilham Aliyev's visit to Russia was another positive step in the development of strategic partnership and allied relations between our countries.
