The hopes and dreams about the "Zangezur corridor" will never come true. Iran's ambassador to Armenia, Mehdi Sobhani, stated this, speaking with reporters Friday.
"Our [i.e. Iran's] position on the unblocking [of regional communications] is very clear and obvious. We are not against unblocking, but I am sure that all actions within the framework of unblocking should take place within the framework of national and state sovereignty," said Sobhani.
Regarding the matter of overseeing of Armenia’s motorways by third countries, the Iranian envoy reminded that the Armenian government has very clearly expressed its position on this matter.
"Complete overseeing should be in the hands of Armenia’s government and within the framework of Armenia’s sovereignty. This is not the 19th century, we live in the 21st century. Countries have independence and sovereignty and enjoy that right," added the Iranian diplomat.
