Moroccan authorities have prevented 45,015 people from illegally migrating to Europe since January and arrested 177 gangs involved in migrant trafficking, state news agency MAP reported Friday, citing interior ministry data.Morocco detained 75,184 people trying to reach Europe illegally last year, up 6 percent from a year earlier, government data showed.Morocco's navy also rescued 10,859 migrants at sea this year, MAP reported, citing interior ministry data. “Morocco will continue to face increasing migratory pressure in 2024, as a direct consequence of the ongoing instability in the Sahel region and porous borders,” the ministry said.
