Baku master plan until 2040 can be 'green' urban development paradigm - SCUPA

BAKU, Azerbaijan, September 30. The Baku City
Master Plan until 2040 can serve as a 'green' approach model for
urban development, Chairman of the State Committee for Urban
Planning and Architecture (SCUPA) of Azerbaijan Anar Guliyev said
during a panel session within the Baku Climate Week today, Trend reports.
He pointed out that urbanization and climate change are calling
for some out-of-the-box thinking to tackle these pressing
issues.
"Cities need to be designed to remain resilient in the future.
Baku's master plan until 2040 addresses this. 'Green' buildings and
the use of renewable energy sources are key elements in all urban
development across the country," Guliyev emphasized.
Besides, the official mentioned that several private
construction companies involved in the country's construction
sector have already committed to ensuring 'green' building
standards.

To note, the Baku City Master Plan is the latest urban
development master plan for the capital of Azerbaijan. It is
managed by SCUPA. The plan envisages sweeping urban changes between
2020 and 2040, particularly zoning, new engineering and
communication systems, and renewal of transport infrastructure.
About 122,000 residential buildings in Baku are planned to be
demolished under this plan.
